J range Inlet manifold

Just got a replacement inlet manifold for my Cento engine, (the old one was badly corroded), in both the old and new, I can feel a 'step' inside, just before the bend. I have no experience of porting or gas flowing on this engine, but always understood that the inlet should be a smooth as possible. Would it benefit from smoothing-out this 'step' ?

Yes use a dremel etc, and or grades of emery.

Thanks for that, I'll practice on the old one.
Cheers.
