125 d running rich

Postby Jeff t » Thu Jun 18, 2026 9:01 pm

Just rebuilt a 125 model d l, it starts and runs but pretty certain i have a carb issue as under load it cuts out so feels like its running rich plus it smokes quite a bit. I bought a good used replacemennt as there was no carb on it when i bought it and on the rebuild I really cleaned the carb, fitted new gaskets and a new pilot jet but thats all. So do persever and maybe spend tne money and change the needle and attomiser or just buy a modern carb.

Go through the basics first:

- jets, slide and needle correct?

- has the main jet been drilled?

- needle and seat working properly?

- air filter plugged?

As it is a D, not an LD, a modern carb is going to be very noticeable. Whether that's a big deal is up to you. They 100% work better.
