Hi
From memory either right or straight down will get the fuel flowing, check how much fuel is actually coming out as the new sealing rubber washer in my tap kept causing the tap to block so I ended up putting the 60+ year old original back in. You will need the choke on to start after you have primed the carb, the on position is with the lever pulled up. The cut out for the engine is built into the light switch, I think the off position is pushed over to the left. If your engine keeps cutting out, if its anything like mine it could be that you have a weak ignition coil. On a C the high & low tension coils are wound together and its a poor design, even with a nos coil fitted, if I ride any distance the coil overheats & it cuts out, the easiest fix is to ride without the flywheel cover fitted which keeps the temperature down inside the flywheel.Hope this helps.
