I don't have a D, but the world seems to be moving away from the traditional grease gun and towards tubes of grease that you insert in a dispenser like a silicone gun you would use to seal around the bath.

Like the D, I have never used one of these either.

Hi
The type of grease nipples fitted to the model d is a,"slide on" type grease nipple... You can still buy the slide on adaptor to fit a regular grease gun from the likes of ebay, no problem. The nipples themselves might be a bit more of a challenge but should be available from suppliers that sell bulk fixings & fasteners... alternatively this type was also used until relatively recently on E.R.F trucks (r.i.p) so you could go down the h.g.v motor factor route & try your luck there.... in fact I came some in a box of assorted nipples at work only last week, so the're definitely still out there....

Regarding filling your grease gun, there's nothing to stop you filling your grease gun manually if you have a tub of grease to hand, the cartridge is only there to make a dirty job slightly less dirty....

Good luck Mark.

Very true Mark but they also overcome the problem of people leaving the buckets of grease without the lid replaced and the grease being contaminated by grinding dust and other workshop dirt. Grease guns and various nipples, sorry USA I mean zerks, are easily obtained from agricultural outlets and the like.

The fittings are available from shaft drive specialists, probably elsewhere as well. Remember they are metric if you are trying to source them locally. You do not need a special grease gun. You can use a regular grease gun with a blunt, pointed tip, or a similar adapter:
