Hi trying to strip down forks and noticed that the fork links have been welded to the splines by the bolts,has any one else come across this

I've never seen it, but it doesn't surprise me - if wear has developed between the splines on the links and the operating lever, tightening the clamp bolt may not be enough to get the link attached firmly, so welding is a good option for the average bodger! If you get stuck for parts, please PM me, as I'm sure I've got a box of reasonable used links & levers - I just need to remember where I've put it, though...... :roll:

I don't mean to appear stupid but here goes....

There aren't any splines on fork links.

Do you mean that the bolt through the fork bottom, and link has become seized in the link bush?

That's quite common.

Otherwise I'll shut up as if that's not it then I have no idea what you're talking about.
