Would like to get opinions and some advice if I should install a brake light on my Ld150 1957, if its easy and if so, where can I get a brake light?

Thanks in advance!

Does your LD have a battery?

What type of tail light does it have now?

Hi JB,

yes my one has a 6V battery, still the original to be honest, the little brown one that is held by a belt. and my taillight is the square one, rectangular.

Since the mid 1980s, it's been a legal requirement to have a brake light on all vehicles used on public roads in the UK. Not an option, unfortunately!

Thanks for the info Steve, what would you recommend is the easiest to install?

You will need to change to a rear light with a dual bulb holder like this:

All you actually need is the dual bulb holder but I can't find it for sale separately.

You could buy a round light (much cheaper) and scavenge the dual bulb holder from there;

And a brake light switch:

My D is away for the winter and I can't remember what I did but probably similar to the above.

Wiring is simple. Wire from rectifier side of the fuse to brake light switch - brake light switch to light - light to ground.

(wired this way the brake light will work with the bike off)

Thank you JB,

I see. Would you know where I can get that brake switch? if you got a link to that switch would be great! and when you mean the fuse side of rectifier, you mean from where the grey/white cable is hooked inside the rectifier? or the black?

I will try to find a duel bulb holder and swap it inside. definitely cheaper than buying the whole lamp again. Thanks for the info!

Specific wire colours are hard to say as I do not have your specific wiring diagram in front of me. There is a fuse that shields the battery from too much draw. You want to hook up to that fuse but not to the side that goes to the battery. In the diagram I am looking at, it's a grey wire. That may not be the same for your scoot. Trace the wires from the fuse and figure it out.

I see. Yes where my fuse is inside the rectifier is a grey cable. I then have to connect the switch together with the grey?

Thanks JB

Run a wire from your switch to the grey.
