1955 Model D150 Version 2 - total re-assembly

Postby Big Al » Sun Jan 31, 2016 10:21 am

Assuming I am starting with a complete engine block, but all the other parts laid out individually after re-spraying and re-plating, could someone please give me a brief outline of the best procedure for putting everything together again?

I was thinking of putting the steering column back first, followed by the stand and then the front wheel, so that the scooter can stand up securely. Any suggestions please?

Go slowly and carefully. Some parts are a snug fit and are easily scratched.

Your reasoning is correct but I'd put the stand on first. Then the forks then the front wheel. Handlebars and controls next.

Thank you both.

So I should fit the stand to the frame, then the forks, and then the front wheel followed by the handlebars and levers. Should I leave the engine plus rear wheel until I have fitted parts like the fuel tank, luggage box etc?

I guess I need to position the wiring loom fairly early on, while I have good access to the frame.

I'm only just getting the parts ready for blasting and spraying at the moment, and some of them still need a bit of work, but I'm trying to plan ahead. It will probably take me a few months, as I'm in no great rush. I just want to make a good job of it. It's fortunate that there are so many people who are prepared to help. Working from photos, a parts manual and a couple of books isn't necessarily enough.

One thing to remember is that the wiring loom under the engine needs to be in place before fitting the engine - also make sure the engine can pivot without trapping the loom. I would fit the stand to the frame first, and possibly the front forks. Fit the engine next, torsion bar & linkage, etc. After that it's really up to you, but I would fit the cables, handlebars & controls before fitting the legshields.
