Standard finish from the factory was a light coat of aluminium paint for the Model D150, i.e. Crankcase (all castings) and the intake manifold, plus the air filter casing (but not the carburettor), and the under-seat tool-carrier tube and its lid.
To make the scooter as authentic as possible, the suggested colour to use is: Fiat 690 Aluminium Silver, with no undercoat or top clear coat ( so it's easily damaged!). I understand that many people do use a petrol-resistant clear coat on their restorations e.g. Hycote XUK 435.

Careful, many "aluminum" paints have a completely inappropriate (and ugly) shiny finish. Seymour "Alumi Blast" is a perfect match.

Thanks again for your help guys
I am in a lucky position of being a paint sprayer and have a good network of getting hold of paint .
As for the finish if you use a 2k clearcoat and mix it with a 50% / 70% thinners mix ( fade out coat ) then add it as a dust coat it will go Matt but give your basecoat protection as if you have lacquered it .
It's worked well a few times for me in the past so I will give it ago ontop of the fiat basecoat
Thanks again

Big Al is right on the petrol resistance. I di mine in the Fiat silver never used lacquer because I did think about it athe time and now regret it!
Use the lacquer

I have found a lacquer that will probably give a more authentic look than the Hycote XUK 435, which gives a gloss finish.
It's called PROXL Crystal Clear Petrol Resistant lacquer, and comes in 400ml aerosols. It's available in matt or satin finish, as well as gloss.
