LDAVV STARTER

Chaps
I need some advice on my LDA. The starter motor turns over fine - I have removed it to verify this - but the engine doesn't turn over. Anyone have any clues?
It starts fine on the kick start
Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like the starter pinion is not engaging with the gearteeth on the outside of the clutch bell. Check the starter cable is moving the pinion fully and check the condition of the teeth on the pinion.

My thoughts exactly re pinion engagement.
Can you explain how to check if the starter cable is moving the pinion fully please.

Take the starter motor out, operate the cable and watch what happens. Its a long time since I had one of these through my hands, Dave Waddingham might be a better man to ask as he has restored two in the last couple of years.

Well have adjusted the cable both ways in and out and all I get is the gear on the motor turning. I can't see how this engages with the gear on the clutch.
Thanks god I still have a kickstart - although this defeats the object.

Ok for those who would like to know. When the starter lever is pushed forwards the cable engages the contacts to initiate the starter motor turning whilst simultaneously the is a shaft that is depressed engaging the bendix onto the clutch cage that has a set of teeth like on a car flywheel mounted on it. This then turns the engine over. Ingenious piece of design by Innocenti!
