Very simple question really.
I haven't ran my D125 for years and cannot remember if the the choke is on in the up position or the down position.

It depends on what type of choke you're talking about - early carbs have a 'strangler' device, consisting of a plunger which slides down inside the main throttle slide, and blocks off part of the main airway through the carb. Those would be down for choke on, and up for choke off. Some of those carbs may also have a 'tickler' on top of the float chamber to enable you to flood the carb for starting in cold weather. Later carbs have a separate device, a bit like a miniature carb, with a brass plunger, at the side of the main throttle slide - just like every other DellOrto carb used on Lambrettas until the end of production. Those are up for choke on, and down for choke off.

It's no wonder you forgot with all that to remember

The problem was I couldn't get it started and was confusing myself with the central plunger being up or down.
