The large nut which holds the clutch bell to its bevel gear is a normal right hand thread. The trick is to hold the sleeve which the nut screws onto in place - you'll need a slim open ended spanner inserted through the hole for the kickstart bevel gear, held onto the two flats on the sleeve itself, to prevent it from turning whilst you undo the nut. It's also a good idea to wrap the shank of the spanner with insulating or gaffer tape, to stop it marking the alloy around the kickstart aperture.

If by any chance you're talking about the 14mm nut on the very front of the splined block which the clutch friction plates fit onto, that has a left-hand thread - unless yours is an early model, when you might just find it's right-handed.

Talking of left and right hand threads, and just in case you work on the flywheel, Steve pointed out to me earlier that:
"The flywheel retaining nut on the D/Ld crank is a normal right hand thread - the flywheel rotates in the opposite direction compared to the Li/Tv/Sx/GP. No need for a left hand thread there!"

Probably a right-hand thread in that case - a 1953 model would be classed as an early model, and there's probably no tab washer to hold the nut in place, either.

OK - be aware of the differences between the early Mk1 125 engines and the later Mk2 125 &150 engines. A lot of parts are interchangeable, but the crankshafts, main bearings, oilseals, cylinder and head, are very different.

Just make sure you get the piston with the 14mm gudgeon pin!
