Isle of mull ferry

Postby mark1 » Sat Mar 05, 2016 2:18 pm

I've just tried to book the ferry from oban to mull and been told all the sailings are full on the sunday and theres limited availability on the Friday.
The only other option is to sail from Lochaline or Drimin, however these ferries are both on a first come first on basis and the maximum motorbikes / scooters these ferries can carry is 14 per journey.

Does anyone know of any other way to cross over to oban, different ferry company etc. I really want to go to this rally but don't fancy getting up there and not being able to cross to the island or worse not being able to get off it until Monday.

I've had a look into the ferry's on the Sunday and found out the there are 8 sailings from Oban to Craignure (which are all booked up for scooters), 9 sailings from Fishnish to Lochaline and 5 sailings from Kilchoan to Tobermory. The map shows that there is a crossing from Tobermory to Drimnin but I can't find any timetable for this.

Some of the ferries can carry 14 bikes / scooters some can take 12 per sailing. if we take this as an average of 13 per sailing this means that 288 bikes / scooters can cross on the Sunday.
Will this be enough to cater for demand as there will is the likelihood that some bikes will be on the island?

Also some of the sailings aren't until 6 or 7 pm, this is too late for most people who want to get back on the Sunday.

Has anyone from the LCGB arranged with the ferry companies to carry more scooters to cater for the Rally?
