I was once that 11 stone, 6 foot niter goer too
The only thing that remained a constant 35 years later is the 6ft part

Decisions decisions - I have the parts to go 5.3 or 5.4 in the garage and not break my spend £’s limitation
I’ll have a think riding back from IoW today
It’s a flip a coin question to answer though.

Decided against SX150 gearing and to trial 5.4
problem is try as much as I could I couldn't get an IWIS 81 link chain onto 15/48 sprockets. I maybe could if I'd forced it, however the chain would be as tight as a piano string, causing excessive wear in the bearings
Not just me as there's a thread within this forum with the same issue - seems an 82 link chain is the solution with a push down tensioner

I've therefore gone with 5.3. 1st test drive went well, scoot is clearly rich in all throttle positions

Not updated this thread for a bit…

Turned out to be a failed experiment - my assumption is that Stuart’s SX150 performed so well as he was/is the weight of a ‘racing snake’. The same configuration and I was dropping into 2nd into a head wind and incline at my ‘who ate all the pies’ weight

Perhaps the SX150 gear box with standard sprockets..!?

Anyhow, disillusioned, over the winter I returned back to the previous GT186 configuration..

One of the other job's over winter was to repair the kick start side rear runner, which was badly split.
In fact it was worse than I thought - 3 cracks in total (I thought 2)

you can barely make out a couple of the cracks from this image, with another under the plastic floor board trim running front to back



I didn't want a local garage type repair, but rather trust a specialist whose used to working with Lambretta's, and a repair that won't need doing again.

Lovely work by Dean, so worthwhile doing a proper repair on a scooter of this calibre, and it gets the GP reinforcement as an upgrade... shouldn't need doing again. Thanks for posting.

PS Dean Stradling is worth following on Instagram - see repairs done which would confound most other repairers, pretty much all Lambretta too.

Couldn’t agree more a magician at work, he repaired a winter headset for me excellent work

Had the paint matched, painted the repaired outside edge of rear runner and refitted.
As the old runner was a couple of inches of sheet steel from becoming 2 halves of a rear runner, I'm pleased with the outcome.

Not unless cracks are appearing due to be pushed in and out the garage
