Not literally a jet engine

One dry build has already been done but as I have spent months panel beating the front mudguard back into shape, I need to do another dry build before it all goes for paint in a few weeks.

Doing anything special with it, or keeping it standardish?

Nothing special. Stage 4 200cc and single seats.

Looks like a good project

More panel beating needed to match up the join between the mudguard and legshields. Taking off some more of the scabby paintwork in the footwells has shown a few pinholes too.

I think it is quite early, 1960 anyway. Panel beating, well, I wouldn’t list it as a skill by any means I bought a cheap kit from Machine Mart a year or two ago. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t

Paint is going to be standard but not the dark grey panels it had originally.

Looks like a rather luxurious, spacious workshop you have there.

Early ‘70s, I’d guess, pre fab garage with uneven and cracked concrete floor. Very cluttered and, at this time of year, really cold. It does have windows and a radio though

Heater on in the garage. Working on a mock up of the indicators with a T5 style buzzer.

The indicator mock up works

Reworked Honda C90 switch, relay from Vehicle Wiring Products, inline 15a fuse, buzzer is an aftermarket T5 one and the indicators themselves are Hella. They are the ones used on bar ends, more commonly. They’ll be fixed in this case.

I am no electrician so if anyone can see anything that is wrong or potentially dangerous, feel free to shout out.

The flasher didn’t work straight off but I quickly realised I’d made an incorrect connection at the relay.

Fitting the wiring neatly will present one or two issues as this scooter will not have a legshield toolbox to hide stuff in. Also, the metal indicator housing does not earth to metal so requires a short, but slightly unsightly, earth wire. Anyway, that’s all for another day several months away.

Just one thing you might be better changing.

The primary job of a fuse is to stop wiring from burning out in case of a fault.

Depending on wire size, environment, insulation type etc, 15A needs something like 1 to 1.5 sqmm wiring.

I doubt very much that your indicator system draws anywhere near that much. I'd guess no more than 6A and that's being generous.

Do you know the wire crossed section?

So, I'd suggest a smaller fuse, namely 6A.


Like someone above said, you always get a little thrill when stuff works without going bang. I'm an electrical engineer and got excited yesterday when an electrical motor moved first time.e . I should be used to it after 40 years!

Thanks very much for this. I have used the wiring cables that came with the switch, fuse and buzzer. They are all different but none are what I would class as “too thick.” The fuse wiring looks thicker than it is as it has a cheap plastic outer which is a lot thicker than the wires it covers.

The cables to the indicators themselves are a thin gauge. I think it is this:

I’ll drop the size of the fuse as you suggest. I was hoping someone would comment on that
