Needle clip - too weak or too rich

Postby Raveydavey » Fri May 22, 2015 7:18 pm

this is doing my head in...
Phbh 30 on rt225(230 with 60 mm crank)

Just to the end of running in now so time to sort the lumpy richness that you patiently have to live with at these times.

I've got it spot on to 1/4, by changing the slide to a 50, mixture is 2 turns and ticks over nicely, over 3/4 is spot on, picks up very nicely but that while mid throttle, atomiser and needle range is all over the place.

Initially had an av266 Needle jet with an x2 needle. It was too rich on 3rd clip and too weak on last clip. Just put in an av264, same needle, it's too rich on 2nd clip and too weak on the 3rd. So by changing the atomiser I've moved the problem down the needle but no closer to solving the issue. I suspect I need to change the needle but not sure if I'm looking leaner or richer.

What say the oracle?

Cheers for the replys. I found I had an air leak today on the manifold, jubilee clip had become loose  running rich now on 3rd clip up to 3/4 and then lean.

Just ordered x13 needle and a 130 and 132 main...running 128 and that's lean. Feel I'm getting close now.

Will put the 266 back in when I get the x13 and see how we go. Patience is something you learn

Stick with the 266, even 268 if it runs ok with the x2 at 1/4 throttle then try x13 and x7 possibly with a 1/2 shim. They are all the same diameter just different taper lengths. Better to be safe than sorry when cruising at 1/4 throttle.

I started with a 45 slide, x2 and 266 but was spluttering like a drunkered up to 1/4, so 268 would be too much I think. When I changed slide to a 50 it was then spot on up to 1/4 and really rich after. Only changed to 264 because the x2 only seemed slightly ok on last clip with a shim. In hindsight Should have tried a leaner needle first. Oh well, I'll have loads of spare parts when I'm done

Thanks.
Have just ordered 132 and 134 , not as tuned as a ts1 so should be close.
