had a lucky one on the way home from kelso yestea

just pulled in from the outside lane doin 70ish when i lost all power, manage to coast into a layby
& on checking things out found this, luckily the broken off bit & circlip where in the slide, & i had a spare needle in me toolbag to get me home!

has anyone any any good ideas to prevent this happening again?
maybe a diff type of circlip used??

Clearly metal fatigue, buy another make.

Try and figure how many miles you’ve done on that needle and change it as a matter of course sooner in future?

THAT CIRCLIP SHOULD HAVE WORN WELL BEFORE THE NEEDLE!!!

I've had two needles almost go like this now and did 2500 miles between fixing the first problem and the latest

The needles/circlips were bought from Dellorto UK so should be OK but the circlips in both cases had worn through and made the needle thin where the groove is

In my case the circlip then dropped down the needle and was still lifting it but by jamming on the shaft causing all kinds of running issues.

Something is not right here - as a matter of interest it was a K24 needle

Check your needles folks!

There’s a brass insert on the slide that you should punch in so it locks the needle in position, stops the needle moving around and prolongs the life of the clip end but still should be checked regularly . A new needle and new needle jet works wonders .

Is that reversible then?

New jet was fitted same time as needle BTW

Possibly Have to persuade the needle back out with a persuader , when you need to .

i got all this in PM a few days ago, & to add regarding changing needle...

Best way is to grip the needle in a small vice using strips of rubber then twist and push the slide down careful not to bend it.

ive got a new needle & atomiser ordered
