hi help needed please with my 185 stage 4 tune sr engine kit fitting with a 23mm PHPL carb.
The jetting on this is a 1.2 main jet, and has a 55 idle jet, and has a AQ268 atomiser and a 40 slide with a D21 needle.
The problem is the carb is flooding at tick over with the RAM filter fitted. When I remove the filter, the engine runs fine.
Has anyone had this problem before?

Not familiar with the carb so can't advise jetting but if it runs better at tick over with the filter off it is too lean. Try mixture screw first and if you've got it screwed out less than 1.5 ( assuming ,out is richening it, which is the case on phbh 30) then change the pilot to next one down (leaner ) and try again. There are quite a few posts on here that will help with this. Forget rest of the jets until you've got this sorted.

No such thing as a 23mm PHPL, do you mean 25mm PHBL or 26mm PHBH?

Sorry to hijack the thread but what is the difference between the PHBL and the PHBH carbs (apart from 1mm in the example above :D)

Been meaning to ask for a while now.

Tony

I`m not an expert (see my notes on carbs just under yours!!) but your atomiser is large I think & may be the cause of the flooding.
Before I put my bike back to a 175, I had an MB racetour piston in it, so would be about the same capacity as yours (around 190cc) & I had the PHBL carb on it with the jets that I am running now on the 175 set up. The atomiser is now AQ264 & while I was trying to sort out my problems, I tried AQ 266 & 268 atomisers & found that with the 268 especially there was always a puddle of fuel in the bottom of the bellows, so maybe you`re just too rich & it may be worth trying a smaller atomiser - it`s only a 10 minute job to change it, just a pain in the whatsit! When you remove the filter, it weakens the mixture showing you were running too rich with it.
