Quick Wiring Question....

Postby Hughieboy » Tue Jul 21, 2015 11:30 pm

I'm in the process of changing my Indian Electronic system for a Varitronic. The fitting instructions talk about joint wires from the loom together to form a single wire but this has already had a modified loom fitted somewhere along the line I guess. The question is, apart from the wires that go to the back light I only have two wires coming from the loom at the point of connection, one red and one green. I realise I'll have to add some earths but as the previous wire up was like spaghetti I removed the old set up without making note of what went where!

If it's a modified and simplified loom is it likely that the green is the green mentioned in the fitting instructions and the red is what would have been the three wires joined if I had an original loom and junction box? (Which I don't have)

Apologies if this sounds a bit vague, I haven't removed any wiring apart from the old earths and everything worked as it should, I'm just scratching my head a bit about it....

Thanks :)

It sounds like a Yes, the green would be ignition.

you don't state if your scoot is a battery or batteryless model. ;) ......

If its a battery jobbie then you could potentially burn the wiring or have a fire if you accidentally connect 12v+ to earth somewhere.

If its a modified wiring loom you'll need to use a multimeter to trace the two wires to be sure what they connect to. I wouldn't recommend that you just trust the colour coding

No Battery..... Has been running fine for years with existing wiring until ignition fault hence the change.
But there is only two wires, a green (ignition) and a red one so there's not much choice there.... So do you mean pop the head set top off and do a continuity test on the red wire?

I would ;) I'd want to know what the 2x wires connect to before I conect anything to them.

I haven't really got enough information to help especially as you think that the original wiring has been 'modified '?

We need to know the model and year and it would help and perhaps a photo of where you have removed... presumably the original CDI yes ???

The only schematic I can find at the moment shows the red wire at the CDI as being the battery wire which if you have a model without a battery then that wire will be redundant
The only other red wire is the one running between the brake pedal switch and the stop light

It sounds like you may have the MB simplified loom. The green wire goes to the cutout/ignition switch and the red wire is the main power lead from the regulator.
