Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

Okay My Friends, I have been advised by some to remove head from my TV3 175 due to heat seziure. Which I totaly agree. It has been running. However I dont want to open the throttle to much in fear of it happing again.Also I need to know if any damage done. So here is my plan, and I will need much help from you guys. Since I will have the engine off and the head for sure. Why not upgrade with the 195 cylinder ki? Which I did purchase. Maybe I should have waited.

Should I go ahead at that point and replace any parts on the inside or is it to early to tell until I get engine apart? What tools should I get? I do have Stickys Manual. I am going to make this a winter project. So for now I am still having fun riding.

you mean you've being advised to take your barrel off to check for the seizure marks? I'd do the piston clean up, richen the carb & ride till the end of autumn
& do you mean you've allready bought the Broady kit for your winter strip & re-build? I'd leave it off till you've got all your brgs & seals & take you're time on the winter re-build

Yes I was advised to take apart and look for marks. I did richen the carb. It is running very well. I just don't want to push it until I do the rebuild. I did buy the kit. so part of my questions was about replacing other parts while in there. So could you be more specific about what parts I should buy so I am ready come winter.

Also I had read some post about the studs for this kit being faulty. Do you know anything about that.

Personally I'd be phoning the people you bought the kit from, and asking for their advice

You could be looking at changing crank, flywheel etc. If you change the crank you will need to change the mag side bearing as a minimum etc....

If your current barrel is cast iron then you need to check it for traces of alloy on the lining, this has to be removed with wet and dry or a light hone. Any score marks on the piston will also need cleaning up. Heat seizes nearly always leave some damage that needs removing or cleaning as it won't go away on it's own. Don't think you've got away with it just because it still "appears" to run ok, it's just lulling you into a false sense of security waiting for it's opportunity to hurl you down the road at a suitably inopportune moment.



re the studs on the MB kit there are differing opinions on these but you don't need to use them. You can just use your existing studs.

Yes I agree it could happen again at any time. This is why I am taking it easy until this winter when I will do a rebuild. Good Idea on using the old studs. However I think the new head has 8 studs. So are you suggesting to use 4 new and 4 old?

the cylinder is held on with 4 studs only but the head has 4 bolts as well :)

My advice would be to wait until you have all necessary parts to bring your engine up to spec before fitting the RT kit, all to often I see and work on motors that have after market cylinders/kits fitted to engines that simply do not have suitable crankshafts/bearings etc. if your gonna do it, do it right the first time, you'll save yourself a few quid in the long run!

PS-If you've seized your 175 cast cylinder you will have an underlying issue that needs attention before you start.

Have you had a look at MB tech site. He has provided all of the information on what the recommended engine upgrades for an RT 195 kit are.
It's well worth a read.
