I set off to Hull last year running in my Targa, I was carrying a spare wheel but when I got a flat it was on the back the spare was useless as the rear wheel has offset rims. Last year I carried two spare wheels this year it will be one for the back and a spare tube with compressed air canisters as well. Especially relevant when I go to Italy. I put Ben Burgess "Goop" in my innertubes

Speaking of the Italy trip, taking a spare might be a good idea anyway as it could be just about possible to run out of tread if your journey goes muck over 2k miles

Or take the time to swap front to back whilst In Adria. I had that plan coming back from Ebensee but when it came down to it I couldn't be arsed so ran the guanlett with a near slick for the last 250 miles

That would be a good shout but I have the lower load rating on the front and also the rotation is different

I tend to do Euros in a group of three no back up van. 2 spares between us is a good number as it leaves the third to carry more of the spares.
Last years run was the first time I haven't had to change a tyre due to wear (Sportsmans) but after seeing my bike on the dyno I had to change a rim.
I also suffered with loose nuts, oooer. on a coast to coast and elongated the holes in the rim so was pleased to have a spare rather than a tube.
also carry studs for the hub.

It's a complete bastard to get into the SIP rims via the valve as the hole on the inside of the rim is very small.

Me and Superhooper travelled to Vienna in 2015. We had a spare wheel between us, but didn't need it. Luck? Probably.

I have gone with tubeless rims and gloop inside. Superhooper prefers split rims.

Our planned ride to Italy will include another two riders, so if we spread the spare tyres around a bit, we shouldn't need one each.
