Nicasil plating concern?

Postby Lammer205 » Tue May 24, 2016 9:41 pm

Hi, I have just received a new TS barrel and on inspection there are a few small spots on the upper part of the barrel where it looks like the nicasil has not plated, the rest of the barrel is very cleanly plated ,these spots are only a few mm's wide is this a concern or will this be ok? Lammer205

seen a few plated barrels that have "de-laminated". I'd be concerned. Either take the barrel back to where you bought it ( and express your concerns) or contact a platers (Lancourts, Aptec, etc) and get their opinion.

If it concerns you (as it would me) take it back and get a replacement don't waist time getting others opinion

Hi all

I remember there was an article in scootering a few years ago about replating nikasil plated barrels. One of the things that the plating company said was that it was normal for small spots on the surface not to be plated & that these spots helped to hold lubrication. I would say that this is what you are seeing rather than a delaminated surface as has been suggested. Best thing to do though, if you are concerned, is to contact your barrel's supplier BEFORE you start using it ...

Cheers Mark.

Thanks for replying people, I have sent some pics to the dealer who I must say have been sound and also helpful on the matter, and also had a query answered by Langcourts who say that the small holes are common but not on all cylinders, so i'm hoping for a good outcome as time is defo not on my side here! Hi just wondered what the verdict was on the pin holes, did it get sorted and in any case would it be a problem in any way ?
