Temperature senders

Postby ste s one » Thu Jun 05, 2014 11:57 am

Can any electronic type wizard tell me whether there's any reason why the temperature senders from the SIP / KOSO speedos couldn't have the connector changed and be used on the Trailtech Vapor and TTO gauges ? I have these gauges on several scooters and find them accurate and reliable with the exception of the senders which are quite flimsy and easily broken.
These cost around £30 to replace and the complete TTO unit is only £40. The SIP /KOSO senders are £16 and come with 4 spare detachable rings , the whole thing looks stronger as well. The idea is to put the right connector onto the SIP / KOSO sender and connect to the Trailtech units .
Will this work ??

Thanks

Steve

I've just tapped the spare plug hole plug in my porcupine head so I takes a water temp sender that's off a sip speedo and wired it to a Koso temp gauge, when I say wired, I just cut the plug of the end of each and twisted the wires together to see if it would work and it did :) so I cant see why not.
The temp reading may not be spot on but the actual temperature is irrelevant, once you have done a few miles in different conditions you will soon know what normal temp readings are on your set up and at different running conditions you will also know if the temp is holding, rising or dropping.
It worked for me but it may not work with your sender/gauge.

Fantastic , thanks for the info Eden. I've found the connectors for 90p at RS components so I'll order some and give it a go.
As you say , the reading is irrelevant , just a reference point. I've got 4 different gauges with completely different readings but I know where each bike runs.
Cheers for your help mate.

couldn't you check the readings by dunking the sensor in boiling water it should read 100 deg c then you will know if its somewhere near.
