Shouldn't the ceramic coating be air tight?

Looking at it isn't it where the transfer ports are?

Yes, that is on the transfer wall: the ceramic treatment would not have touched it.

I would just put some Araldite over it. My barrel is full of such fixes.

we use a company Ultraseal based in Slough to seal our ally cylinder heads and anything else that has porosity that would cause a problem.

You can buy low temperature alloy “welding rods” that melt using a regular blow torch that would be my choice for repair.

Maybe I bought poor quality ones, but mine just crumbled rather than melt.

Blimey!

If it's transfer wall, why not just drill the hole bigger, tap to something like M3 & Loctite a good screw in place? I'd use A4 stainless & finish both sides flush for an almost invinsible repair.

Have noticed that when they show people using that low temp Ali welding rod, they are welding Coke cans, not big lumps of Ali, like an engine barrel? You just can’t get enough heat into the barrel to get the process to work, especially as the barrel is purposely designed to disperse heat.

These rods have their place, but not here.

Well rather than speculate would it not be a better idea to buy a single rod (as i did) and give it a try? If it works well fantastic, if it doesn’t well get someone to weld it properly with a tig.

Remember the low temp rods are not anything to do with welding, their more like a form of brazing so in this case should flow into any porosity that’s present.

JB Weld it, done loads, this is more common than you think, but good chemical metal, such as JB weld will sort it,

Thanks for input lads, I’ll give the JB weld a go, stripped out the reed block twice thought I was going mad! Wasn’t until I located a breeze whilst trying to locate the hiss :o

Good timing as I need to do the same on my current build.

Question please: Which of the various JB Weld products are people using? The common 2 tube epoxy or the different high temp putty product?

Thanks in advance as knowing may stop me from trying the wrong stuff.

Cheers
