Hi , I've had one in my engine four or five years and the last time I had the gearbox out the clutch was as good as the day it when in the only thing I did was to get rid of that wire clip and used silicone to hold that little plate in place.

Thanks for that. The wire clip is the Vespa system. On the basis that they are often quite tricky to get out, I’d favour leaving it in :D

Just an update on this clutch. It continues to work really well but do be careful when putting the “Vespa” wire clip back in. If the wings of the clip stand proud by more than 3mm, they catch on my chaincasing.

When the engine is cold, you get a brief sensation that the clutch is slipping under hard acceleration. As soon as the engine warms up, this disappears. Witness marks on the chain casing and wire clips led me to what was happening.

Merely bending the wire clips back a bit resolves this.

PS. My original title for the post is wrong. It isn’t a cassette clutch.

FYI - I use the DT modified (machined to suit) AF cassette clutch centres in the 2 LTH clutches that I run. I didn't like the original clip design and clearance issues, a number of pals having found that their clips had gone walkabout, so opted for DT's revised centres and have had perfect service to date.

Thanks, Adam. I wasn’t aware of this.

To clarify, DT modifies these to fit. Is that right, before I contact him?

Correct... and can also do the LI thimble type, meaning that you can use the LTH with the more common side casing.

Darrell supplied me with both and the function is equally brilliant with either.

Darrell tells me that he doesn’t do this anymore as, with the clutch centres being hardened, it is very labour intensive. He puts a bit of silicon on to hold the centre in place whilst building the engine, and leaves the wire clip out.

It's not a new concept, common place in the BSSO Race paddock, We've run LTH/BGM Clutches modified in this way for years. (AF centres)
