Bear in mind adding the filter is likely to richen it further.

Moral of the story is search the forums and don't put the needle on top of the plate as Warkton says
Now fitted latest Casatronic with "sport" cdi designed for use with an expansion, so put it on with a clubman :?
Obviously not right and starts holding back and spluttering on full throttle, might also be main jet.
Well impressed with rt kit though. Have tea strainer on it.
Got to Sandford and back 500 miles between quarter and half throttle.
Will be fitting Stratos Montellery expansion and getting it dynoed.

I would suggest you look at your cdi rather than your carb in this instance.

Thank you for your acknowledgement, though many have made the same mistake.

I have a couple of the Dell'Orto PH range carbs that I will probably never use because I believe that there are much better products.

For far less than the cost of a new PH slide, the PWK carbs are available & I would suggest they are far superior. Polini have committed to manufacturing their own version, as fitted to paraglide engines, but there are OKO, Stage6 etc or the Chinese copies which can be obtained for not much more than a tenner, though I would urge anybody to "blueprint" any carb following the many guides on t'internet.

Despite some negative opinions about them, they are a doddle to set up, have anti-flood built in & work extremely well with an adequate air filter. Recently, I built up a 34 mm intending to use for a large piston port engine, but curiosity got the better of me, so I put it on a newly built TS, tuned 70 x 60, albeit with my own adjustable power jet turned off. It started on it's first half-hearted kick & sounds really fit...... :D

Well I have to say that this RT kit has given me the biggest headache in dialling in a Lambretta and I have been doing them for a few years.
All the above advice is good but use it as a guide and a mere starting point.
Mine also was bogging at the start and changing the slide to 45 improved it and then 50 cleaned it right up.
Always remember the main jet NEVER cones in until 3/4 to full throttle so the early bogging issue is with the selection of atomiser and needle.
The proof of anything once you get it running correctly is in the colour of the plug regardless of what posts or what people tell you what jets you should have.
I have found this RT 225 kit hard to judge on plug colour as it seems frugal on fuel.
I have change atomisers, and needles on a kit that has absolutely no leaks and found very little in the change of plug colour.
I like most, like to run on the rich side. I always run with a filter - breathe sweet or the MB wire inside the standard box version.
Running a PHBH30
BGM exhaust
AV 266
X13 needle - and what ever needle I use maintain 2nd clip position
Pilot 50 - 55
Slide 50 - tried 45 was ok, 40 was a disaster
Choke 70

Choke is fully home.

Bike ALWAYS starts first kick.

Picks up well now and scoots along at 40+ but comes into its own after half throttle and really buzzes along.

To me it’s as if this kit does not like to lower speeds - hates 30m always wanting to GO. 40 always seems hesitant and again wants you to release the horses.

I really don’t know but it may be a characteristic of this kit that it needs to be ridden and hard which for me was not really what I wanted wanting a tourer .

It is an incredible kit but I really have to ask myself having done 500 miles with it if I would buy it again or seek an alternative for my style of riding.

The trip to Normandy next month will tell!

I think your analysis is very fair, although I will admit to have never ridden an RT kitted bike.

However, if I’m any judge :? I will also admit to never really understanding the point in the concept of creating a Nikasil alloy barrel with piston porting without the benefit of additional ports. My belief is that additional transfers allow for a more complete, better controlled feed to the upper cylinder. The RT would appear to be more akin to an old school ‘stage’ tune of an OEM barrel with the benefit of a plated bore & heat shredding alloy main construction.

I think it significant that a lot of RT’s have been modified to take a reed manifold. Probably the closest ‘out of the box’ kit that I have ridden to an RT fitted with a reed would be a GT kitted bike & that really was very torquey & a pleasure to ride. That said, a reed is not mandatory on a kit cylinder to make for a torquey, pleasurable bike as a Rapido with a longer stroke - 61 mm in my own SX - pulls fuss-free from tootling around town in fourth with top gear being 4.46
