The MPG was very constant week in week out. I did a test using the V-power diesel from Shell and BP's equivalent.
With these fuels I did get about 3MPG more than supermarket diesel but when you did the maths, the extra cost of the superfuel equalled things out.
To be expected I suppose!
It’s a ‘swings & roundabouts’ scenario. With the diesel vehicles that I own, two of which are turbo diesels, the difference between V-power & a lower grade were instantly noticeable as far as the 150 BHP TiD was concerned. That would tick-over & run smoother on V-power whilst delivering better economy. Significantly, the better fuel would enable a higher gear to be held, although complying to a 30 MPH limit still would mean dropping down to fifth. That car has over 250,000 miles on it & has never used a drop of oil.
Habit has meant that I use V-power in my newer, ‘go-to’ TTID (Twin Turbo Injection Diesel) car which is probably 210 BHP (with bucketloads of torque) & that, otherwise identical car, can actually manage 30 MPH speed limits in sixth gear. TBH I have yet to try a lower grade fuel in quantity to compare performance, although actual economy is always better than 47 MPG & I’m not hanging about when there’s the chance…..
