I tend to ride on my own.

I have a theory that the most efficient tuning method (i.e. getting from point A to point B in the shortest possible time) is a reliable engine and a big fuel tank. For this theory to be successful I need to avoid standing on the side of the road with someone else who has broken down or stopping every 30 miles to refuel a scooter that has the same MPG as a big block V8.

...or maybe I was friendship tested and failed. :D

Y'see, I've got a big motorbike too. It's fun but not the same kinda fun as doing scooter rallys on Lambrettas.

I reckon I'll treat myself to one but what do I put it into?

I've got a lovely 1964 Pacemaker in original immaculate condition that I never ride or do I sling it into my bastardsonofahundredLambrettafactories bitsa that I ride everywhere?

Think you answered your own question there and get that name sign written on your side panels

Hi Digger.

What is that seat on your scooter? In the photographs it looks like a low line cutback. Where did you get it and is it comfortable; it looks classy.

Ancillotti seat - cutback seat black with waffle sides - Scootopia.

I have two and yes they are very comfortable as you can slide your bum around when things start getting numb.

I've done a few thousand on this one..... :)

I'm currently reviewing all the options for a monster engine and weighing up the pros and cons. Here's where I am:

Misano Casings - Pros looks like a very good solution to weedy Lambretta cranks, I do like putting together a nicely tuned motor myself . Cons - has the weak point just transferred to the gear box (I don't want the hassle of freeze hardening my cogs,)I don't like the look of the sand cast casing. It'll still be a big single cylinder, big carb fuel guzzler. No point going fast on the road but then having to stop for a 15/20 min fuel break every hour.

BSG Casa 305 - Pros - looks beautifully finished and has promising power output (if it can be made usable). Cons - they're only just fitting the prototype into a frame over in Italy so it'll be a while yet before it arrives on these shores and I don't want to be in the first batch of owners for new technology.

Targa Twin - Pros - smooth usable power with acceptable MPG, apparently reliable and, I'm embarrassed to admit, the exclusivity of it appeals to me. Cons - The cost (which is what makes it exclusive, I know), I get a certain satisfaction from arriving at a destination on an engine I've built; the Targa would rob me of this. Insurance, the fcukers will nail me to a wall on it and it's a 6k motor that'll be left sitting in campsites and outside service stations with only crappy Lambretta anti-theft measures to keep it in my possession.

At the moment the Targa is winning out and I'm just trying to get in touch with Camlam to find out details and options, if there are any. This hasn't been as straightforward you'd think.

I've been watching this closely. Apparently the Greeks can't leave the Euro, it would spell financial disaster and most likely prompt anyone with Greek investments to withdraw their assets from the country. This would make any new currency virtually worthless. Its always amazed me that the Euro has maintained its value through so much turmoil over the last eight years. I do need to be wise with making a significant Euro purchase though.

Well I bought a Scootopia cutback seat... very comfortable but whether or not anybody bought a twin, well we'll have to wait and see.

After a prolonged period of faffing about I took the plunge and dropped off the stripped down Pacemaker frame to CamLam in June for fitment, and setting up of, Targa engine number 30. I don't expect to have it back for a few months so it'll be next year's plaything.

CamLam are just one outlet for these so it's entirely possible that there are more than seventy in existence.

It would be nice to know how many there actually are; Targa Twin register anyone?
