Noddabodder, what about the Harry Barlow pro porting 283cc lump?
I'm currently reviewing all the options for a monster engine and weighing up the pros and cons. Here's where I am:
Misano Casings -
Pros looks like a very good solution to weedy Lambretta cranks, I do like putting together a nicely tuned motor myself .
Cons - has the weak point just transferred to the gear box (I don't want the hassle of freeze hardening my cogs,)I don't like the look of the sand cast casing. It'll still be a big single cylinder, big carb fuel guzzler. No point going fast on the road but then having to stop for a 15/20 min fuel break every hour.
BSG Casa 305 -
Pros - looks beautifully finished and has promising power output (if it can be made usable).
Cons - they're only just fitting the prototype into a frame over in Italy so it'll be a while yet before it arrives on these shores and I don't want to be in the first batch of owners for new technology.
Targa Twin -
Pros - smooth usable power with acceptable MPG, apparently reliable and, I'm embarrassed to admit, the exclusivity of it appeals to me.
Cons - The cost (which is what makes it exclusive, I know), I get a certain satisfaction from arriving at a destination on an engine I've built; the Targa would rob me of this. Insurance, the fcukers will nail me to a wall on it and it's a 6k motor that'll be left sitting in campsites and outside service stations with only crappy Lambretta anti-theft measures to keep it in my possession.
At the moment the Targa is winning out and I'm just trying to get in touch with Camlam to find out details and options, if there are any. This hasn't been as straightforward you'd think.
