Has anyone used one of the wire ringed type Scooter Restorations pistons they had made ages ago for their alloy cylinders?
If so how did you find them, good/bad??
Cheers

I had an oversized 175 piston, rattled from new.
When I heard it I rembered all the comments about them doing did.
Shame I didn't remember that before I bought it and had the cylinder bored.
Maybe they have new stock now

You may be saying that these were made to suit their alloy barrels, but they also suited other barrels, subject to ensuring the correct clearances etc. In fact, I was under the impression that they were only for use in cast iron bores & not plated ones, so just wanted to make sure we are talking about the same thing here :)

Anyway, on that basis, I believe they were/are a good piston.

Although the 66 mm piston I have was only used for very few racing miles in a tuned Rapido barrel, it stood up to that punishment well, so I consider them more than adequate for a road going engine.

I hope that helps ;)

Brain fade on my part. It was a 66.5 I had.
If it's the SR piston the O P is looking at there were pages and pages on the old site.
The general consensus was the skirt was narrower then the crown which allowed the piston to rock and rattle.
Mine was in an untuned Spanish 200 barrel so no wide inlet for it to tip into. I have an old vid of riding in London and when pulling away the rattle is audible.
Shame because they were good money and light with thin rings.
Like I said if they're new stock the issue may have been sorted mine was five years ago.

Do you mean the cylinders with the alloy cast around the steel insert?

I have always treated these as steel barrels anyway.
