I always used to find iridium plugs fouled up quickly on 2 strokes and went back to normal plugs

I’ve just been having a play with one and was quite disappointed if I’m honest. Was supposed to be the same heat rating as the ngk 9 I’ve been using but despite this the cht temps shot through the roof, took it out put the ngk back in and all good.

The way i see it is the flame from these is so concentrated it makes so much more heat in one spot, something that we really dont want.

Waste of time for a two stroke Lambretta. Get the bog standard Denso, they last ages.

My wallet would cry if I spent £12 on a Lt of fully synthetic
£3.60 a lt exol oil does me fine.

Exol fully synthetic specifically for an air cooled 'race' engine that is so good it is run @ 2%?

Obtainable for cash @ £15 for five litres?

Interesting to read this - and could have saved myself a few bob if I had earlier.

I was drawn in to the marketing of the DENSO Iridium and spotted them at a reasonable price at Camb Lamb so used one claiming to have similar heat characteristics as my Champion N3C.
First ride : Disappointed that the first 15 or so miles were really boggy and looking to stall repeatedly.

Ended up putting an N3C back in at the side of the road and it ran crisp again (TS1 230).

Only issue was I then ran out of fuel on the way home, getting just 45 miles rather than 60 miles out of a tank as I’d ridden harder in third gear to keep the revs up with the Iridium plug in. Relieved that I had a spare 2litre tank on the bike.

I assume if I wanted to persevere then I’d need to rejet the carb so can’t see much point.

IMHO Denso Iridium fill a specific need for highly tuned engines & are probably no worse than NGK.

The likelihood of them being necessary on a road tuned Lambretta is extremely slim.

Meanwhile, the very under-rated Champion N3 battles on for a road tune

Admittedly, I seek out the Champion fine wire version that occasionally appear for bargain prices because I use no suppression with points ignition but have no proof that they are any better than the N3. The habit probably came about because running certain Dell'Orto's with an air filter tends toward flooding/hot start issues....
