Ok... I am thinking of fitting a RT225 kit to one of my engines and running it with a BGM v4 clubman and PHBH 30 and SX/TV gear box.

I know there are mixed options about the Kit and MB... but the RT kits do seem good value?... I am looking for a half decent rally bike mostly for when I ride with my son (gt186) or slower riders... I already have a TS1230 & a 240 both of which are great but hard work when riding with slower groups.

Like many I have other projects draining away my hard earned so I don’t want to be wasting money, so it’s the cheaper RT or nothing.

Please share you options and experiences of the RT225...cheers guys

I run a 225 kit with a Sito Ancillotti clubman pipe and a 22mm carb pulling a TV200 gearbox. It's a phenomenal kit and goes like stink. I'm just blown away by it whenever I ride it. It's economical and dead smooth. You can just feel the power right from the start and it stays on tap and just keeps going. It's easily the fastest scooter I've ever ridden. And this is out of the box! What they've done with these kits is amazing. And, if you had a mind too you could easily stick an expansion pipe on there and get some serious performance. Go for it. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I've run an RT 230 for a number of years with a NK pipe and a 30mm carb. I would say it is one of the most versatile kits I've run. Although it's not as powerful as other scooter, it definitely hold its own against most while still being very practical.

Good kit and I would imagine it will do what you want it to do.

Although a midley tuned stage 4 kit with a decent piston would probably not be too far out performance wise. You won't get the cylinder head or the improved fixing positions etc.

It rides itself... 25 mil Delli through airbox, BGM mk3 box, GP 200 19/47 (I think) gearing, beautiful spread of power & very user friendly & economical, well recommended....

i've been running an RT225 in my series 2

engine spec is : sito ancillotti big bore, 30 PHBH with ram air filter, SX 200 gearing.

my brief was cruise at 60 on the motorway with top speed of 70, now how hard can it be to achieve this?

in 7,000 miles performance has been very poor, it's happiest cruising at 55, top speed can't even make 65!

top end was put together by legendary tuner and racer Geoff Stephens (RIP).

motor now sat on workshop floor gathering cobwebs, very dissappointing

Hi Peejay, I remember you saying the exact same thing about your Mugello 225 Version 1. I think you maybe expect too much from these kits in standard form. I certainly think that the claimed speeds from these kits are over estimated. I had a Chiselspeed touring tune on my Mugello V1 and with the port heights corrected it would do 70 plus albeit with a Taffy MK4 pipe. Add a reed valve to these kits and you will get a lot more from them although I really believe your RT 225 will be limited by the Ancillotti box pipe. What I am saying is that with the set up you have, those speeds sound about right, out of the box. I also believe that people on forums in general over state their speeds for whatever reason, either that or they are Lambretta wavy speedo readings. One last point is that the S2 is not the most streamlined of scooters.

hi Rich, thanks for your reply. it seems that me and kits just don't get on!

i've been riding lammies for 53 years now and remember how fast completely standard new scoots (GP 200) would go, i don't think this kit is any quicker, i'm just totally not impressed one little bit.

how hard can it be to cruise at 60 and have a top speed of 70?

PS : my V1 225 moggie with 22mm jetex & ram air filter, sito ancillotti and SX 200 gearing is deffo faster than the RT

By contrast I could only ride mine confidently at around 50-55 mph before it would start to overheat, partly my fault for sitting the egt wrongly, but mainly despite what i tried I just couldn’t get it running right and felt very pissed off if im honest as i was and still am setting other people’s scooters up no problem but for the life of me couldn’t get my own right! I admitted defeat in the end and got Chiselspeed to set it up, the difference was like night and day.

It now cruises at 70 easily on an NK road with a top speed of over 80.

The only advice i can give is ditch that ancilotti (being the limiting factor) and get Chiselspeed or someone similar to set it up for you, they are great kits much better than the mugello in my humble opinion.

To be honest - and this is in no way scientific - I suspect your carb might be too big for your set up. You're trying to ram too much through and it's hitting a bottleneck. You can go two ways it seems to me. Fit a different exhaust or use a smaller carb. I only say that because mine is fitted with a 22mm and it goes like hot you know what off a shovel. It's just a question of getting the balance right.

Currently building 2 RT 230 reedvalves for the coming season and hoping for similar results.
Was chatting too one of the mk Mencenary lads who took his Bgm V4 off his rt225 as it made it slower and reverted back to a dev-tour which improved it no end. Fickle things Lammy engines

I did read that the BGM V4 made engines slower due to added baffles to make them quieter.

Be interesting to open one up and have a peak inside. I’m buying that Bgm and taking it to Pro porting for a few modifications

It has a 30 PHBH with filter, BGM v3 pipe and an LTH reed.

I love it. Pulls high gearing and cruises 65 easily. 10 miles per litre of fuel.

LI150 gearbox 18-46 4.34 final drive. Varitronic ignition.
