VARITRONIC COMPATIBILITY OF COMPONENTS

Postby shamrockexpress » Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:04 pm

Is the stator and CDI coil the same across the whole range? Also what are the present day thoughts on the varitronic is it still ahead of the game? Is all varitronics set up with the same advance/retard and what is the start number and end number?
degrees of timing.
thanks.

I have run a varitronic for years and have replaced the components over time from Mike Phoenix who has sold me stator, flywheel etc as separate items.

The link below to a pdf depicts a timing curve starting at 20 degrees and pulling down to about 15 degrees at 8000 rpm.
Hope this is of help.

I've no flywheel to sell, but I will say despite a lot of negativity about them I love mine after countless failures with other highly recommended systems I swapped to Varitronic on my long distance Lambrettas and never had an issue since. I carry a spare CDI but its never been out of its wrapper.

I'm quite sure a lot of the negativity is spread by people trying to sell their own products and line there pockets rather than true negative experiences of real users. That can be said for a lot of products not just Varitronic.

I remember the MEC cranks were to go to for quality in most tuned motors for years until people started selling £300+ cranks. Just sayin.......
