AF Bearing fitment

For fear of looking a nob (which some will say I already am).

When I fit the bearing, the AF plate that goes on still leaves a gap? Is this right?

It doesn't look good. I've tried this on two different casings. 1 Italian, 1 Indian. The MB recess plates aren't any deeper than the one it's supposed to have.
