Just starting 1962 li125 renovation. How can I squeze some extra power from engine without straying to far away from original.

Fit a 150 top end; loads lying around and a 20mm standard carb. A clubman type silencer will be worth a little bit of go too. Keep the 125 gearing and for not a lot of money you'll have a reliable,frugal standard looking set up with a noticeable improvement over a standard 125. It won't be a rocket ship but will be nice to ride.

I am still amazed that there is not a 125cc kit available for the Lambretta: Something like a mini TS1, making 10bhp at the rear wheel.

I am sure there would be a market for people who don't feel the need to pass their test.

what baffles me is why we have to spend a small fortune to get a lambretta engine to do what a px 125 does out of the box

You don't, you can set up a decent small block 150 engine to top out at 60mph using standard parts.

I think the reference here is to the Li125 not the 150

I thought the reference was to an upgrade for the 125.

just trying to say it can be done to a speed that is faster than a standard PX 125, for not a lot of money using standard parts on a small Block engine using a standard 150 cylinder and piston with only other standard parts fitted.

maybe upgrading this LI 125 to a faster LI 125 is what's intended while still keeping it to 123cc.

But how to squeeze a little more power without really straying too far from the original, the obviouse is a capacity conversion. But boring out the 125 is not really the best solution IMO.

Might be better to fit a second hand 150 barrel and piston and head, preferable an Italian SX or GP barrel and then an Indian big bore exhaust and 22mm carb.

another option could be going to a tv 175 spec,if your changing the crank put a tv 116 conrod crank and a AF tv175 kit,mine pulls like a train!

I think the owner wants to stay fairly standard engine wise, a simple 150cc conversion will keep costs down as well as all the hassle of a tuned set-up. My standard SX150 buzzes along quite nicely, was easy to set up and still quick enough to be practical in modern traffic (with the exception of motorway and fast duel carriageway use)
