New gearboxes - Indian

I have a tired Itaian 150 gearbox, and a missing/damaged 2nd gear, so have been looking at a new one for a small block engine with an SS200 kit.

Li150 is favourite as I have 16/46 sprockets.

Any opinions/reviews on the new Indian boxes ? SIL boxes were always ok ?

AF CR boxes are good, apparently,, but indian as well, and will require new sprockets as well.

If I win the lottery I'll get straight on the rimini website, but thats unlikely.

I have a tv/sx box in it at present and it does not like the gap between 3rd and 4th. pulls it in top no problem though ;-)

I've bought had a pacemaker first gear and it was good. A gp200 first gear that crumbled like a hobnob.

I think it really is pot luck.

I agree about the chances taken with ANY remade gears apart from the Taffspeed special 'bastard' gears (the ones MBD claim "don't work" :lol: ) as I 've had the Indian remade SX & AFR CR & even DRT gears smash upon engine start up. For the record, DRT supplied SIL loose gears have not been a problem, suggesting to my mind that the genuine SIL manufacturing process managed to emulate the OEM Innocenti etc very accurately. That's what gear manufacture is all about. To be tough, they need to be hard enough not to wear, yet strong (not brittle) enough to take the stress of transmitted loads.

HOWEVER....The DSC boys race with remade 'boxes, so if you can track down where they get theirs, you might take the risk.

I'm concerned that a standard TV175 'box is not suited to your SS200 top end. I would have thought it difficult for such a kit to have less power & torque than an OEM 175 :?

As with any indian stuff, it's pot luck if you get a good box that has been hardened correctly.

Hi there, we use SIL gp 200 gearboxes in BSSO Production class racing, genuine sil gearboxes are quite strong and rarely are there any breakage in the class. Our proddy engines put out around 23bhp and group 4e evos around 30, again no issues, although not high mileage motors the conditions and hard life they endure cannot be replicated on the road. I've also used them in many LCGB/BSM engines again very reliable. AF Close ratio's can be good but sometimes need a good check over, also the 4 speed close ratio is no longer available through AF, so be careful of snides kicking about.
