Interesting article in the MCN regarding the ongoing production of synthetic petrol. Couple of points of note.. .. 1/ the estimated cost of £1 to £3 per litre. If this is based on the year 2030 it would seem great value.
2/ would adding 2 stroke oil to the product be OK?
With the ever increasing ethanol content of present petrol could this be a real saver for our engines?

I doubt any future plans will be anything but bad new for 2 strokes. Just another nail in the coffin.

I doubt any future plans will be anything but bad new for 2 strokes. Just another nail in the coffin.

Could be right Ballspeed ,but being optimistic , I believe there will definitely be a market for petrol beyond 2030 ,and being ultra optimistic see this technology usurping those desert OPEC bandits holding us all to ransom........especially at £1-3 per litre forecast for 2030. There again can't see them standing for that.
If this chemistry is proven and can be accepted (low carbon emissions) then the "genie is out of the bottle".

+ 1. In hindsight the introduction of unleaded fuel, which scared the bejesus out of me at the time (goodbye high comp heads...) is nothing compared to this...

Isn't this what the Germans invented in WW2?

It’s only the sale of new petrol vehicles that will be stopping. There will still be millions of petrol vehicles still in daily use for at least 10 to 15 years after that date.

I can imagine some time in the distant future petrol will be only available in specialist garages and pre packed like paraffin is now

I believe the Germans synthesed petrol from their coal. It was however extremely inefficient process but given they had an abundance of the black stuff that didn't matter.
My interest was mainly concerned with this substitute being less harmful than the high ethanol content in existing petrol and with the likelihood of a higher ethanol

We'll never see it. But, one day, when petrol gets too expensive to buy, then future boy may well have to run them on cheaper to produce Ethanol???
