Offset cones with flats

The issue with offset cones has been nicely overcome by Casa’s kit of cones with D-shaped holes and a bolt/bar with a flat machined onto it. I also note that Glasgow Lambretta sell the same kit of parts under the banner of “Fortified”, but I guess they are not the Casa item.

I have the extra long engine mount on the k/s side, so the Casa/Fortified solutions are not suitable.

I have a capability to machine a flat onto my existing extra-long bolt/bar but I would need the Casa style cones with the D shaped hole. Glasgow don’t sell the cones separately and I anticipate the same response from any Casa supplier, so how could I manufacture some? Perhaps convert some “old-style” offset cones to have a flat within the hole?

Any thoughts?

Probably easier to buy the cones and bolt, throwing away the bolt and making a new, longer bolt. The bolt would be easier to make than the cones.

They are ace, well worth it.

You could just drill and tap two stock cones and put grub screw in to stop them rotating, might be a bit fiddly to get the bolt in maybe but it would work and it's not like the motor comes out every day.

Thanks for your replies.

I now have some cones coming from RLC. A good price, except for the postage, which was more than the cones.

I have also identified that Glasgow Lambretta and Harry Barlow have their own interpretations of the Casa solution.

I will machine my extra long bolt to suit the Casa cones and weld a slim nut on the end. The job should be a good’un.

The Casa cones have arrived from Italy.

Next is a visit to John Howe at Jahspeed and to frighten my extra long bar with his Bridgeport mill.

More later....
