What be the effect of only running 7 degrees of advance. I realised earlier that when connect my timing strobe to the battery its already set to 10 degrees advance. Since I have been using it to set the timing against marks on the flywheel housing, I think that means I have been running with 7 degrees of advance.
Would this cause poor low-mid range performance, or poor performance at higher revs.

Most likely, it would cause poor everything!

I was working on the basis that most of the variable timing boxes retard the timing at higher revs, so presumably if the timing was already retarded it might run ok at higher revs and poorly at lower revs

On TDC mark. So 7 degrees BTDC. I was trying to set to 17 but the strobe already had 10 degrees when powered on (and I didnt realise) so I think I was setting to 7 degrees.
