I am in the process of building my new engine rt 246, 70 bore 64 stroke and don't know which ignition to use, current scooter has got a indian from scooter restorations on 21yr old v1 mugello 225 and only had 1 pickup go since built in 2003. but i have available
readspeed single phase ac
readspeed 3 phase dc
af ducati lightweight dc
af ducati lightweight ac
indian I can rework
p200e stator on lambretta backplate with indian flywheel
old varitronic
want to run a full dc system

or do i buy a new vape ?

Personally, I'm a massive fan of the robust simplicity of full DC. I mean that the ignition is also DC. I run mine with a capacitor instead of a battery but a battery would make for easier starting, once running it makes no difference though. Also prefer to use an external pick up, just to make adjustment easier, although how often do you need to adjust your timing once you've built a motor that you're happy with? A 3 phase stator/flywheel is a great idea as you get more and smoother power, in principle anyway. Use LEDs everywhere and you're laughing. I did try using cheap Chinese moped CDIs as they were the only ones I could find without any advance/retard but they proved to be unreliable so I use scootronics now and have never had any issues. Maybe I would try Boyer Bransden for the CDI and coil if I were to build another.
