VAPE Stator info wanted

Hi, I have a VAPE ignition kit fitted to one of my Lambrettas but it recently lost its DC output. The ignition side of things is completely fine but if I put a volt meter across the battery the reading goes mad (unreadable) as soon as I start the engine. I tried checking the output withthe DC didconneted and got a reading of 6 volts so remover the stator and checking the lighting coils (8 in series) I get 1.3 ohms. Does anyone know if thats in the right ballpark? standard indiian lighting coils (4 in series) read about 1 ohm but I can find nothing helpful on line

I'm considering adapting a small 12v DC power supply to give 12 volts AC and use that to test the regulator
