I want to have a go at building up the crankcase transfer ports.Its an old casing and I want to enlarge the ports to take an RB20 cylinder.Going to use a mig (I know ). Any tips re heat,is it best to build up?clean up and add more weld,or do it in one go and clean up after?

have you got the use of a lathe or a milling machine to dress the gasket face when you've finished?

Unfortunately,no I haven't. Expect you mean how am I going to get a good enough seal between cylinder and crankcase.Not thought that far ahead yet.

I think you should give serious thought to giving it a decent welder to do, I'm not even sure it's possible to use a MIG for ally most people talk about TIG Then there's heat distortion, it's normal to have to machine a metal plug to fit in the flywheel housing to act as a heat sink.

Think ill knock the idea on the head,and look for a Spanish casing.

As said above, don't go anywhere near it with MIG unless it's a pulse set. TIG is really the way to go
