Gents...Help please...
Changed my GP 150 to 200...sent of the V5 and 8 weeks later it returned as a 150.
Next day I received a letter saying I had to pay the extra tax on the scoot, plus send an engineers report or garage report to say it was a 200cc...
I had the engine case and top end off a few years ago, and as I have done the work myself, how the hell do I get round it...
Any help here would be great as I'm panicking a bit?

It's the age old scootering dilemma, 'do I tell them about that non standard item on my 60 year old moped or is it best to let them believe it remains in exactly the same state as when it left the factory'?

When I put the sidecar on, changed the colour and upped the cc it took three attempts before they got it right. On the subject of engineers report I told them I was a time serve mechanic and considered I was qualified to work on a scooter, did not tell them I worked on tractors.

Changing colour they don't have a problem with but engine size I had same thing, luckily I had a bill off chiselspeed for work. I printed off all info on kit i put on and gave them that. Could just write a receipt under say, Phoenix engineering for work attached to info of engine

I would have thought a signed declaration of cc change and that you carried out the work yourself would have been sufficient but what do I know

There feckin idiots on these matters mate and dont seem to realise that lots of us carry out the work our selves. I would just print off a A4 sheet with your name (adding something like Lambretta engineering after it) and then write or type it out as a bill for the conversion listing parts used and a rough itemised cost of each . Sign it and send it off with log book. You are upping the cc and not lowering to 125 so its not as though your trying to pay less tax for the new conversion.

I have been trying to decide whether to let DVLA know as don't like to be outside of the law. Problem I have is I have let insurers know but obviously log book still says it's a 125. It's also 1962 so tax exempt. Would telling them it's now a bigger engine mean I pay road tax? Don't mind if it does but does give me slight worries should an incident occur that makes the insurers or authorities look into it. I will also be following the thread with interest.

I dont think it matters what cc it is if its of an age that puts it in the tax exempt bracket.

I recently needed to get the engine size changed on a PX200 to 125cc after having an LML 125 engine fitted in it for my son. The DLA initially rejected my request for a capacity change so I got the workshop that fettled and fitted the engine to write an invoice stating the refurb and fitment of a customer supplied engine and sent it in with the logbook. 4 weeks later it came back with the required changes

I got a friendly motorcycle/scooter repair shop to print me a letter I had written and e-mailed to them on their headed notepaper. The garage charged me a fiver for their time. DVLA sent back the changed log book within a fortnight

they don't like exact cc so you would have to put 198cc or 123cc not 200cc or 125cc

Hi, just upped the CC on my Vega from 75 to 125 no issues. Just got a headed letter with details of Frame, Engine & Registration No. stating that CC change was correct from my MOT/Garage.

Sent off & 2 weeks later, log book returned with correct CC.

My log book originally said 75 & I put 125 down on change & no questions were asked. Hope this helps....Steve
