Ok, bit of advice please.
I know about plugs chops to check jetting etc. but what exactly do you do?
I think check at 1/4, 1/2, and full throttle - yes?
How far do you need to run to get a good check? - half mile??
Does it matter what gear you're in ?

1/4 - 1/2 - 3/4 - and full I think. cant see it mattering what gear your in as the carb runs on same jets etc at what ever gear your in at these throttle positions. I try do do about 1/3rd of a mile and use an old plug as there easier to read than a new one.

I think you will need to do nearer 2 miles at each throttle position to get any meaningful colour on the plug. You need a stretch of straight level road with laybys at convenient distances. Into neutral, kill the engine and coast to a stop.

Thanks guys, if your jetting is out can you safely do 2 miles to check?

Wouldn't be doing 2 miles prob less than a minute in each position at most I usuall hold it for about 30 seconds or so, pull clutch in and kill engine simultaneously and don't use a new plug. You can usually find rough jetting guides just start a bit higher than recommended.

You can seize or hole a piston in a lot less than 2 miles.
after doing the four quarter positions do longer runs and check again. Then if you have the patience do all the mid points between.
then do it on inclines and declines. (you get the picture)
it doesn't hurt to leave a slightly rich place lower down as this will give you a safe point when you roll off the throttle.
