mugello 198 or mb 195 racetour

Postby daniel whiteley » Wed Aug 26, 2015 9:46 pm

As title says I'm wondering which one to buy out of these 2 , I'm upgrading all components bearings seals crank ect but I can't decide which one of these kits to fit , I'm after more power and reliability than my standard engine which is a 125 special it's going to be used for general running around with the odd 2 up with either the Mrs or one of the kids doesn't have to be rocket fast just reliable , I know it's been asked before but they have been around for a while and would like a fresh response to help me decide pros and cons and such
Cheers

Both will give you more power , not rode a RT kit but look well made , built and rode a mates Mugello 198 built as you say with new crank , bearings etc fitted with 28mm Dellorto and JL3 pipe was surprised how well it went tourquey and quite nippy and is still going strong @ 6000 miles later

Thanks for the reply , you run them both so which in your opinion is
A... Better quality produced/made
B... Most reliable
C... Most powerful with same set up of carb ,crank ,exhaust
D... Best fit with engine, exhaust ,cowls
E... Best in cost efficiency for running/buying
Cheers

i have had both kits, the rt has a little more torque low down but the mugello kicks the rt into touch up the rev range, the 186 mugello in my view is a better kit than the 198 kit! in both performance and fuel use!

Ran mugello 186 and now a 198,both great kits.Id suggest a 186 with a 26mm PHBH carb with ram air filter (My cam lam breathe sweet filter actually got more air flow into the carb than open mouthed on the dyno!) and choice of exhaust is up to you depending on your riding.A clubman or ancillotti will give you good low down power for 2 up use or a JL3 for fast road use.

Bearing in mind the kit is only half the job. The exhaust, carb, electrics (auto advance/retard), gearing will also greatly effect the performance and at what stage the performance (power) is delivered.

Where one kit may perform better with one set-up, changing the exhaust, gearing, etc may make the 2nd kit performer better........if you get my drift :?

ive got a bgm pro exhaust , was going to run either a 25 phbl through a modified airbox or a 26 phbh not sure what filter as i wanted the standard look , with it being the 125 special its the same gearbox as the gp 200 so ive just changed the front and rear sprockets to give the same final drive as the gp and the ignition kit im looking at is a new Tutto Lambretta/Ducati 12 volt GP variable electronic kit from scootopia which look rather tasty

I have a mugello 186 in my 125 special with 26mm remote filter and Indian big bore, pulling gp200 gearing 2 up no bother. Power delivery is like a standard 200 only better. 8-)

Not on the 186, the 225 has been such a pain in the arse that I've put the curry burner back to standard and am seeing hardly any drop in performance but a huge drop in fuel consumption
