Still got one of the BGM original looking "sausage coil" CDIs unused, which I'm hoping to fit. Seem to remember they had reliability problems and are no longer sold, did anyone get one to work reliably or not worth the bother?

Mine never worked at all, got sent back. I think Mike Harford (Hullygully on here) has one of the prototypes which works and maybe Dimitrios from Greece ( on here) may have a working one but that's about all.

I have one that just worked a couple of times but it died later,
I also have another two that never worked,
so I bet that yours will probaly be faulty,
the project sadly was abandoned from BGM,it was a very good idea but didn't work.

I'm intrigued, what was the spec etc?

It was a standard CDI packed on an original style coil,









I opened one,it was full of silicone plus the circuit.

yes I've being running my 2nd one for 2yrs now, 2nd hand from Germany, they'd used it for a few months, no probs , sent my original one back due to HT lead breaking the internal screw it did the Derby 150 & the last 4 Nations

^... the only one that I was asked to look at by a clubmate, who wanted me to check how he had wired it as it wouldn't spark. There was nothing wrong with his wiring but I decided to try it on my regular use bike, substituting it for my working CDI, but couldn't get a spark on mine either. Then, in trying to ensure that the HT lead was contacting correctly, I rotated the HT lead gently to ensure it was home and I too sheared the contact pin/screw as described above.

I really like BGM's stuff (their stators have done wonders for Lambretta reliability) but they seem to have been let down by their manufacturer in this case The CDI was replaced with a standard one, without any fuss, so no complaints about service either.

Had some time to 'play' yesterday,
the design is pretty basic,I can't understand what is/went wrong,
everything was connected as it should be,
I'll further investigate in the future.
