"I want to loose the points on my series one, but would like to keep the 6volt lighting system."
Then I think it's very possible to do using the original four pole flywheel and stator with the addition of a CDI from a variatronic.
The four pole flywheel as standard uses all or most of one laminate wound core to creat a spark for the points, that one coil could be rewound with the correct diameter enamel coated wire to the same impedance as a variatronic stator and as there is no pickup on the Variatronic then there is no extra work needed.
The other original lighting coil is left untouched, the rewound coil could if needed have a second winding sharing the same coil if needed, i think some early stators used the earth side of the ignition through the brake switch to earth through the brake light, this is on single wire brake light switches as fitted to very early series 3 and earlier.
I guess this could be a cheapish electronic conversion where originality is what's needed most, that's if my thinking of how to go about it is correct.
Just sharing my thoughts.
