Hi all,

Whilst I realise that many people have now moved on to SIP speedos, with the range of functions that they offer, I'm looking to replace a toolbox top mounted analogue rev counter and wonder what my options may be?

In the past I've tried using one of the more common types, which can work on 12v AC or DC but found that running it AC meant that it didn't remember the number of cylinders that it was set for the next time it was used. This resulted in having to reset it each and every time I turned the ignition off... a little frustrating to say the least! I understand that this does not happen if you run it on a DC system/setting but I do not want to run a battery and would rather have no tacho!

So, what are my options for a 12V AC analogue tacho? I want to keep it analogue as the vintage nature of the bike means that digital is out of place. That said, if people have a recommendation for a cheap/good/round one (digital) then I'd consider fitting one to a different bike of mine.

Any help/suggestions welcomed.

Ok so this is digital but it doesn't require any setting up, just one wire to thread down and wrap around the ht lead. It is powered off an internal battery and is on all the time recording RPM while the engine is running and changes to a reading of hours run when it doesn't sense an ht pulse. I've has one for about 4 years now on my Jet, never misses a beat and at £8.99 it's a bargain.

the koso range are pretty good, most are digital and all remember the settings once set up. having said that though I did end up changing them every year when I used to use them.
a spaceship bolted to your scooter is the most accurate and reliable option but not to everyone's taste I know.

Same as mine on my S-Type, works fine, but more for fun and amusement as it isn't always easy to read at speed.

I run a Westach tacho on one of my scoots , Easy to set up .

I was looking for a Krober Adam and found these instead -absolutely brilliant, very smooth indication and in a variety of colours too.




Motoplat and a Spanish one at that.
Only PITA is that you have to charge their own internal batteries and they don't last for more than a few hours.
Bought mine from a Spanish dealer off eBay for around £70 IIRC?

FWIW, I doubt it pulls much current so a mod charger should be able to power it permanently -I've mysteriously had 2 of those go however in the last 3 years so I'm building my own design to supply 12v & 5v with a more robust design.

It’s good to see Motoplat still using the Krober/Pitsch mouldings.

Do you have a link for the supplier, please?

Bought from eBay Spanish dealer but I can't recall who and it was some time ago so I can't see it in my purchase history either I'm afraid.
There's one here but I think that was more than I paid!
