baffled with this one. finished a rebuild on my imola and it fired up ok. went to take it for a spin and in stopped about a mile from home. no spark. pushed it home and checked the readings from the stator and they are coming back within the tolerances. replaced the cdi with a known working one, new plug, new cap and new ht lead but still no spark. any ideas?

What type of stator ? Was it new ? Maybe it's breaking down when it gets warm and when cold gives good readings. Also check flywheel magnets for damage

ignition circuit? You don't get a spark if the switch is set to off...I.e the key isn't in the slot. Try by passing it to rule that out. Check all earths are good too.
If neither of those, I'd put money on the stator/ cdi.

I had similar and had to replace stator.Probably a burn out. SR about £36 tested.

Was a previously working stator. Anyway took it off and put my spare refurbished one on with bgm low tension coil and pick up. Fired 1st kick. Checking over the duff one and it turns out it's an intermittent earth. Resoldered and araldited it and it's a working spare again.
