Which kit to replace old TS1

My old tuned TS1 has bit the dust with a big gouge in the barrel when the piston ring location pin has come out.

Wondering what to fit next? RB220 or Casa SS225?

Need everything new from crank up though to exhaust.

What do you all reckon?

All depends what you're looking for I suppose, touring, round town riding, 2 up, motorways, etc

I'm a big fan of the Avanti kits. I've set mine up in several different formats (gearing, exhausts, carbs, etc) and you can get it to do most things.

Minimise it by using a reed valve manifold

The GT Kit has proved it's worth as a 200 and up

I use a Breathsweet filter and have no issues, although I agree the reed valve would help as well.

Perhaps you are considering the opportunity to ‘upgrade’ from a TS1...

However, besides the excellent advice you’ve received, Langcourts are just one of several companies that can repair damaged barrels:

Tune the TS you have and get it re-plated.

Plenty of options as you have got to replace the crank. 60-62mm stroke 115 rod Wossner piston.

The options are limitless.

I to would suggest liner, if you were happy with the old kit? or you could get some more work undertaken, addition of extra boost ports etc.

Kit is already lined. An old MB stage 4 with a rotax conrod. Was considering replacement over repair. Will probably get the repair done as new kit will also need a new crank and probably exhaust.

If the barrel is already lined, won’t it take a re-bore?

What size is the existing bore?

Remember, any list of suitable pistons on a seller’s list is not necessarily the only ones available ;)

You may need to add or subtract packing from the barrel base, or, as another option, re-rod your crank. However, the crankshaft con-rod bearings are subject to wear just like any other part of the top end so this can be a good thing.

If you can bore out the damage of your barrel & fit a bigger piston, the money saved against a new kit could even be spent on a bigger stroke crank & that really could be the best solution all round... :)

Barrel is already oversized and piston needs to be 18 mm little end not 16. It is/was running Honda CR 250 Moto cross piston. I will see what MB says when he is back from his tour of Europe.

If the bore is larger than the largest readily available over-size (Ø72 mm) then you may have trouble.

I’m sure you know what you’re doing.

Good Luck with whatever you decide. ;)

Richard taylor does little end conversion bearings if that helps.
