Is there anyway to upgrade front sprocket arrangement?

I'm experiencing front sprocket slippage on my TS1. I have replaced sliding dog and spring but not front sprocket as that looked okay. It's still slipping. The slippage is the one where it slips and then quickly picks up again. From my past experience, this is the front sprocket and not the clutch.

With hindsight, yes, I should have replaced front sprocket too but before I do that, has anyone successfully done a modification to eradicate this? Maybe a spacer?

I'm almost certain it's not the clutch as, whilst I was in there, I replaced that to the same spec it was before, a Surflex green 5 plate, MB springs, same thickness steels.

The issue of preloading the spring was discussed @ length not so long ago, so it may be worth searching & chasing up the contributor(s) that had a similar problem to yours ;)

What di the gap between the top steel and friction disc measure? should be between 1.5 and 2mm fully comperessed I think

Didn't actually measure it but, by sight, no more than 1.5mm. I did try two thinner steels first of all but the clutch did slip then. It was then I checked the old steels to discover they were the original (1.2?) as supplied by Surflex. So, I put the standard ones in.

Just read it and I can see exactly what you mean :-)

On my other engine, a GT186, I recall swapping the Indian 16 sprocket for a Casa Italian 16. There were significant differences in the overall dimensions and the machining of the teeth. I did take pictures but I can't find them. The Italian one appeared to me, a layman, as being a quality item.

Perhaps I'll get a replacement Casa front sprocket and take it
From there. I am open to the idea of a well fitting shim though.

Left is the new Casa Italian sprocket, right the SIL one that was in the engine. Whilst it is hard to appreciate fully from the picture, when you stick a set of verniers on them to compare the two, there are noticeable differences in the dimensions.

Anyway, I have just been for a test ride having changed the sprocket to the Italian one and have been unable to get the sprocket to slip again :)
