Hi all again.
I am thinking of constructing with help a new engine from a 150 case I have.
I would like it to be reliable and have a cruising speed of about 65/70 with a slightly higher top speed and and nice bit of pull away torque.
I am obviously starting from just case so a good starting point of what to use would be very helpful.
What is the largest barrel etc I can use on this casing and what gearbox would go with the barrel suggestion also crank and piston info.
I realise my request is wide reaching but any suggestions where to start would be appreciated.

Gt186 with a torquey expansion such as ads3 and sx200 gearing. Think 70 cruising might be a bit optimistic but 65 certainly do-able

Yes a GT186 would do the trick, if you want a little more power raise the exhaust port by 1mm, Ive got some video of a GT186 in a series 2, two up going to a rally doing the speeds you have quoted

Rob Miller has a GT186 with MB Clubman and 25mm Delortto and it is one of the best rally bikes I know. Cruises comfortably at 60+ all day.

Can't help thinking a GP200 box and gearing would be better though.

Contact Gransport in Birmingham. If their website says no stock, call them. Failing that Rich Taylor who designed and produced this excellent kit has his own "Granturismo" website. I am pretty certain his email address is on there.

I spoke to Gransport last week about the availability of the small block GT kits - they suggested 6-8 weeks before they would be in stock.

Having no working speedo or rev counter I just wondered what "real world" speed and revs count as cruising. When on the motorway I judge speed in relation to HGVs are they're [alledgedly] electronically limited to 56mph. I find that I'm pretty much cruising on a par with them, possibly about 2 mph faster as I creep up to them and have to open it up to pass then relax back into cruising once passed. I work on roughly 9.7 mph per 1000 rpm [Indian GP200 gearing] so I guess I'm mainly crusing at about 5,800 rpm. Download Avantone's gearbox visualiser to work this out if you haven't already done so, it's a fantastic bit of kit and free.
For those with rev counters what revs do you find yourself cruising at?

I use my electronic tacho and I am happy at about 5600 - 5700 which equates to about 55mph whilst others tell me we were doing 65 mph. Got plenty in reserve and have revved it to over 8000 in 3rd gear but never yet beyond 7000 in top. It will rev on but I want to get there wirhout a hole in my piston.
